Before the first session you will be given a short health history to complete so that any bodywork will be as beneficial—and safe—as possible.
Some health issues require special accommodation or even avoidance of an area altogether. At the beginning of each session the client and therapist briefly go over what areas need work, and the best position to accomplish that.
With children, parents may choose to be in the treatment room or remain in the waiting room while the child is receiving therapy. Depending on the age of the child he or she may play on the floor, couch, or lay on a massage table. Sessions may last from 15 minutes to 90 minutes.
Most sessions are about an hour. Occasionally clients fall asleep on the table or experience intense emotional release as their bodies are working to find balance—these are common reactions to this kind of bodywork. After therapy, water intake is extremely important to allow the body to flush what it doesn’t need and balance what it does need.
